Tackling the Rip

Tackling the Rip

Saturday presented a formidable challenge for our surfers as we found our surf zone to be subject to some very strong rips and strong in-runs which could change forty centimetres deep into a metre of water in moments. Our most junior surfers in the 9 o’clock session were well-marshalled by parents and coaches with additional help from some of our more senior surfers, enabling us to have a lively and enjoyable session despite the conditions. The second session began in the same testing conditions and we eventually decided that the Dolphin group would find more success on bodyboards than flailing in the white water wash that the inside presented. The Sharks, meanwhile, were catching what waves they could find, with the more confident being accompanied by Harris outback to tackle a green wave or two. Our banner pictures shows Bobby finding a runner which gave him a barrel just a little further on than the picture I captured. All in all a good session, though a kinder sea-state might have seen us catch more waves!
